The LONGEST three minutes of my life

TIME!  I was done, no more wods.  I had completed what I set out to do, compete and complete all 5 wods.  I quickly find myself in a sea of hugs in celebration of finishing the weekend.  I felt so accomplished and successful.  I take a big swig of what I thought was going to be many beers over the coming summer months, and boy oh boy does it taste sweet.

Then Jillian, my badass training partner, came up to me with a look of shock holding her phone.  I give a confused ‘what ?’ look as she mutters….’dude, you’re in third’  I shrug it off not believing what her.  ‘No, seriously, you’re in third.”

At that exact moment in time the world stopped, my throat dropped into my stomach, I started hearing my heart beating in my ears so loud I thought it was going to beat out of my chest. My eyes begin welling up and I can feel the tears coming on when I hear, “no, you’re tied for third. “ I come back to reality realizing in the case of a tie it would come down to who placed higher in the individual wods. Then I hear, “it’s not done updating.”  At this point Wayne, another sweet ass training partner, calmly steps in, “lets let it update.” I really thought he was going to jump over two coolers, tackle Jillian and tape her mouth shut, but he didn’t.

For those that don’t know, you can follow the updates as they’re put into the system.  Well, every time someone’s score is entered the positioning jumps around, so you don’t have a true result until all the results are in the computer.

So there I sit on the side of the hill, waiting…..waiting……waiting…..for what seemed like an eternity.  Wrestling with 1000 emotions, trying not to get too excited I may not have made it, the results weren’t final.  Then……..”IT’S OFFICIAL, YOU’RE IN THIRD! YOU’RE GOING TO CALIFORNIA!”

The flood gates open and I can’t even pretend to hold it back.  I had come into the weekend wanting to finish top 20, that’s it, and here I was going to The Games.  The sure surprise, excitement and disbelief were making mush out of me.  I gain some composure and try to let it sink in; I’m going to The 2010 CrossFit Games.  WHAT!?!?!?!  REALLY?!?!?!? ME????

  1. Yes, Really, You.

You are an inspiration Kate…….how that you’re a world famous CrossFiter, about to go to battle in the middle of the big stage, what will it take to get you to sport that Canada T-Shirt in Cali? HAHAHAHA

Very proud of ya girl. Way to fight for your goals!

  2. Jeff, I can ceratinly pull some strings and rock out the Canada shirt at The Games, at least for a pic or two to prove I did it. ha!

  3. Okay so I’m catching up on my blog reading.

I understand exactly how you felt. I have been there each time I completed an Ironman or more recently this past weekend at my Triple T race.

So much work and so much focus goes into the prep and competition that it all must bust out at some time. For me it’s when the competition is over and I have crossed the line.

    California BABY!!!!!!!
