Most people are taking Black Friday to get door busters, sleep in, eat leftovers and watch football. Not this kid!
Holidays have lost some luster for me over the last year. Holidays no longer come with rest, unless they fall on a rest day. Holidays no longer mean booze fest, the only thing I’m od’ing on is H2O. Holidays no longer mean sugar commas, unless you count the sugars my supplements.
I remember a speaker I heard at a leadership conference I attended in college given by an olympian. He said that he took holidays as a day to get ahead. He knew his competition would be resting, spending time with family and possibly making bad food choices. He trained two times that day. He worked harder when others were resting, and guess what, he became the best in the world at what he did.
I’m applying that same philosophy to my life. I take holidays for what they are, another day. Yes, I see my family and share laughter and good times, but I don’t sacrifice all the hard work I’ve put in over the last three years to do so. I’m committed to my goals and do my best to remain focused no matter what day of the year it is.
To be the best…I have to train like the best….even if it’s a holiday.
