A gymnast I am not

So today i got WAAAAYYYY outside of my box.  A month or so ago the posted 100m walking on your hands.  Sounds silly right?!?!? And my initial reaction was just that ‘what a stupid wod’.  Why would anyone need to walk on their hands?

Then I started thinking about the rationale.  Think about how much balance, body awareness, control are needed to walk on your hands.  I would put it into the same bag as the iron cross, muscle ups, handstand pushups.  Skills. And I must say, I have a whole new respect for gymnasts and pretty much anyone that can complete this wod.

It took me just shy of 50minutes….that’s right….50minutes.  Hell no I’m not proud of that, but that’s the truth.  I’ve never walked on my hands, not even as a kid, so today was all sorts of special.  So why did I do it?  Because it’s well outside of my comfort zone.  And after 50 minutes of kicking up, walking, balancing I got a shit ton of practice.  And practice means progress.

So while I put up an embarrassing time for 100m walking on my hands, I put up a number.  Today I picked something I knew I couldn’t do and I did it!  That’s a big victory in my mind.

  1. Hi There Admin,
I was wondering on a similar note,, Gymnastics is a rapidly growing sport at the club level. It is estimated that there are over 3 million children participating in gymnastics in this country. USA Gymnastics, the Olympic governing body for the sport of gymnastics, has seen a 37.5 percent increase in the number of private clubs over 5 years. There are as many as 4000 gymnastics programs in the country.
