Chasing the butterflies

“Some people are settling down, some people are settling and some people refuse to settle for anything less than butterflies.”

I recently came across this quote and it really struck a cord. Why?  Because it’s how I tend to live my life.  I would say that I’m a completely different person today than I was 3 years ago because I chose to chase the butterflies

3 years ago I was in corporate america working a 9-5 and getting a steady paycheck.  That’s what you do after college right?
2 years ago I was on track to be a VP by 30
1 year ago I started an MBA program

8 moths ago I walked away from it all…..why? Because none of that gave me butterflies. While I enjoyed my job and I wasn’t unhappy, I wasn’t passionate. Enter CrossFit stage left. 3 years ago I started CrossFit, and over the years I have fallen in love with it. Every part of it; changing people’s lives, leading a healthy lifestyle, competing, the community, and on and on and on……. and 8 months ago I embraced the one thing that gives me butterflies….CrossFit.

At the time I wasn’t sure how I would make my living from CrossFit, I was just chasing the butterflies. And here I sit with my own CrossFit Gym (Coca CrossFit), competing at the elite level, and chasing the butterflies everyday. I had no clue where I would land, I just knew I had to jump. The craziest thing happened when I followed the butterflies…..I’m working harder than ever before, I’m truly passionate about what I’m doing and I’ve never felt more alive. Looking back, I couldn’t believe I was going to settle. Chasing the butterflies was the greatest decision I could have made.

  1. You rock Kate. Loved this post. You took a chance, left your comfort zone, and look what happened. Keep chasing the butterflies and living life to the fullest! Too many people look back on their lives and ask “what if?” Not you. You ask, “what next?”
