Suck it up buttercup

Today I swallowed my pride and did what I had to better myself as an athlete.  What does that mean?  That means I modified…..that’s right, I Kate ‘killer’ Rawlings modified a workout.  Even the elite have weaknesses even though we may seem like ‘super heros’ (at least that’s one of my members refers to games level athletes as)

So what was on today’s list of ‘fun’ DT with a 5min rest then JT.  If you don’t know what those are, let me fill you in.

DT rx is 105, so of course I had to do it at 125
12 Deadlifts
9 Hang Power Cleans
6 Push Jerks
5 Rounds

5 min rest

Handstand Pushup
Ring Dip

So we all know how much I LOVE HSPU’s now add on top of that a DT before hand. My shoulders are already smoked going into JT. I managed to chip through the first round of everything and it was back to the wall. And boy oh boy was I smoked. Three times I completed the negative pushup and held a lovely head stand, but the whole pushing up thing wasnt’ going to happen.

In sake of finishing the wod, I sucked up my pride, and modified. I strapped two bands over the pullup bar and finished the workout with assisted HSPU’s. As much as it hurt to modify I had to remind myself of what I tell my clients everyday…..’it’s not sissy to modify, it’s working where you’re at’ It seems so logical when I say it, but hard to apply to myself. I’m a games athlete, shouldn’t I be able to do everything easily? NO….I”m just like everyone else. I have weaknesses and I’m slowly chipping away at them. Everyday I get a little stronger, a little better at HSPU’s, and one day soon I’ll smoke em!

  1. Thanks for sharing Kate!! Your honesty helps me not to beat myself up so much when I occasionally have to scale in order to complete the workout. It is either quit or scale and quit is not in my vocabulary!!
