Modified does NOT mean NOT working

With my knee acting up due to all the tightness on my right side I’ve been left with a decision.  Rest until my knee is finally functioning pain free or adapt and over come.  I opted to work around it.  I always tell my members that we can work around any restrictions, why would I not apply the same rule to myself?

Today’s comp team programming called for a one rep max of sumo deadlift.  Knowing that the low squat position pulls on my IT band (aka the source of my tightness) I opted to try a pin deadlift.  The sumo stance put too much stress on the back of the knee, so I went to conventional.

20min later I pulled a 375lbs conventional deadlift from knee height.  I feel pretty damn good about it, and I would say I worked pretty damn hard.  Theres NO reason to think that because you’re modifying something you’re not working hard.  You’re working the best you can that day, and every day will call for it’s own demands and own modifications.  Some days you’ll modify up, some days you’ll modify down or like today, you’ll modify the movement and kick ass!
